Xiao Yaqing meets with Daniel Andrews,

Premier of Victoria, Australia

On May 15, 2017, SASAC Chairman Xiao Yaqing met with Daniel Andrews, Premier of Victoria, Australia.

Xiao Yaqing expressed his welcome to Daniel Andrews for visiting SASAC during his stay in Beijing for the Belt and Road Forum. He said that China has enjoyed rapid development in the past 30 years, which was a result of China’s reform and opening-up and a pragmatic and world-oriented attitude. President Xi Jinping proposed the Belt and Road Initiative in 2013, which aims to further promote globalization, reform and opening-up; enhance mutual learning, communication and cooperation with all countries around the world; explore development opportunities, seek new momentums, fully tap potentials and achieve mutual benefit and win-win cooperation. Victoria State has rich experiences in opening-up and development that can be shared. China and Australia, Victoria in particular, share a time-honored coorperation in the field of energy, mining, manufacturing, high-tech and research and development, which has laid a solid foundation for bilateral relationship. SASAC will continue to promote the exchange and cooperation between Chinese central SOEs and Victoria. Australia has abundant resources and is now a global leader in energy management, development and clean energy utilization. Chinese central SOEs are large in size and diversified in business portfolio. Not only do they operate in traditional energy and mining sector, but they are also working in areas like healthcare, aviation, high-end manufacturing and high-tech etc., seeking for transformation and new business opportunities. Chinese central SOEs need to learn from Australian enterprises, constantly improving their management to adapt to the local policies and regulations, thereby enhance cooperation. Furthermore, by working with Australian enterprises, Chinese SOEs can gain insights on western markets’ legal system, cultural environment and better leverage each other’s strengths to explore opportunities globally.

Daniel Andrews said he was delighted to attend China’s Belt and Road Forum as the representative of Victoria State. Victoria has strong ties with China and good and ever-growing partnership with Chinese SOEs. Victoria government has great economic vitality and adequate fiscal resources to support further development. SASAC and Chinese central SOEs are welcome to Victoria for better understanding of investment policy in Australia and western countries investment experience. Daniel Andrews said he is looking forward to seeing an increasing number of Chinese SOEs expanding their investment in Australia so as to strengthen bilateral cooperation. Victoria hopes to cooperate with SASAC and Chinese central SOEs in the next 5 to 10 years, in order to make progress together, jointly achieve the common objectives such as the Belt and Road Initiative.
